Guardians of the Galaxy 2

Take a look at Marvel’s hottest new hit. (Caution: may contain spoilers.)

What could be better than snuggling up with a large soda and a monster amount of popcorn? Perhaps watching Marvel’s newest release while doing so? Marvel has been doing well the past few years, with monster box office hits such as “Deadpool” or “Avengers 2.” So, it was only inevitable their newest sequel did really well, with over $431 million in profit after just one week.

So what made this movie so popular? The creators did a great job of incorporating satirical, adult, and even slapstick humor all throughout the movie. Not to mention they completely revamped a beloved character, Groot, to add even more potential for a good laugh. For those who don’t already know, the massive and badass Groot was chipped down to a tiny sapling, with the intelligence of an average toddler. So of course, mixed with all the unique personalities of the Guardians, Groot takes on an entirely next level role in this movie.

Not to mention one of the new additions, Mantis, who an orphaned shut away completely oblivious to any form of social conventions, has the most awkward yet strong relationship with Drax. Her unique empathetic abilities mixed with his apathetic tendencies create the ultimate foil, and it’s hilarious, cringy, and adorable all at the same time.

Another huge component to this movie is the discovery of Star-Lord’s (Peter Quill) true heritage. It’s obviously one huge mystery twisted up into another that eventually tangles a very lethal web for pretty much all of the universe. Of course, Peter isn’t the only one struggling with himself and where he fits in with the world. Rocket is seen in multiple cameos of his particularly bitter and cynical  outlook on his life. Of course, with a little help from Yondu, he starts to recognize his emptiness is only tearing him apart, and leaving those around him devastated as well.

“Overall, this movie was definitely at least a 9 out of 10,” junior Tanner Eubanks said.
Still not convinced? Go see the movie yourself to find out. After all,  it is an amazing sequel that was well crafted to entertain and elaborate.
