“The Walking Dead” Is Back!

Walking DeadBy Mason Albrechtson

“The Walking Dead” Season 4 premiered on AMC On Sunday, Oct. 13. Titled, “30 Days Without an Accident,” the premiere was action packed and emotionally charged. Everything from zombie rain to disturbed women in the woods, “The Walking Dead” had it all.

“I thoroughly enjoyed the season premiere of ‘The Walking Dead,’” said senior Dylan Leighner. “The way the writers set the new season up with this episode and the foreshadowing within it was expertly done.”

A month after the climactic events of the Season 3 finale (aptly named “Welcome to the Tombs”), things at the prison are looking up–everyone seems chipper. Rick is out of his depression, doing the farming for the group, while Daryl leads excursions out to nearby towns.

A lot of things can change in the course of a month, and the time skip did create some confusion. For instance, the addition of something called “The Council”–a group that was not explained until later as the leaders of the people at the prison.

It feels the same with some of the new characters; we see them once, and they disappear for the rest of the episode. It left me feeling like the show was rushing to play catch up–a hint at alcoholism here, a relationship with Beth there, yet no major development.

However, there is still the whole season to develop these characters–16 episodes, with a mid-season break after episode 8.

Catch “The Walking Dead” Sundays at 7 p.m. on AMC.
