Falling In Love with 1975

It was late at night during summer break when I fell in love.  I fell in love with a small indie-rock band from Manchester, England. I was flipping through the TV channels.  I stopped on the TBS channel. It was late at night and the Conan show was on.  I landed on the show during the performance section.

On the show was a group of four young men with a rocker/hipster look. They had super strong British accents and the song they were performing caught my attention immediately. The song reminded me of driving with your friends on a warm summer day, windows rolled down, stereo blasting, and the wind blowing through your hair. I fell in love with the energetic drums and the vivacious sounds of the guitars.

Because I had missed their introduction and started watching halfway through their performance, I took note of the verses so I could find the song and name of the band later. I later found out that the band I fell in love it with was The 1975.  The song they had performed was  “Chocolate,” their most popular song from their album “IV.”

The next day, I bought “Chocolate” off of ITunes and listened to it constantly.

The band consists of Matthew Healy (vocals), Adam Hann (guitar), George Daniel (drums) and Ross MacDonald (bass guitar). All four started playing together in high school.

The band released their self-titled album “The 1975” on Sept. 2. There are 16 songs on the album.  The songs on the album are  bubbly and to me embody everything about being a teenager. Their songs talk about love, heartbreak and having fun. Their music makes you want to dance and you will find yourself replaying every song.

Some of my favorite songs from their album are “Chocolate,” “She Way Out,” “Settle Down” and “Heart Out.” I have played the band’s music while hanging out with my friends and they too have fallen in love with this band’s unique sound.

I would suggest this band to anyone who loves alternative indie rock. Who knows–you could be singing along with Matt and fall in love with them too.

Listen to “Chocolate” on YouTube.
